Explore the emotional upheaval that is the transformation from human to vampire. Bleeding to death after brutal mugging on the campus of UNLV, Twenty-five year old Alyssa, is rescued by the cold and aloof, vampire, Lysander. Taking pity on her, he shares the gift-and curse-of immortality. She awakens as a vampire and is soon devastated by harsh realities of her new way of life: An unyielding thirst for blood as well as the loss of her friends, her independence, and her humanity. As if having her humanity stripped away was not enough to make life interesting, Alyssa finds out her “turning,” did not go unnoticed by the rest of undead society. Old enemies; an ancient sect of vampire hunters, known as the Acta Sanctorum, as well as a powerful Vampire mistress, each set plans in motion to destroy both Alyssa and Lysander. Excerpt
âYou are a vampire.â
âA what?â I shrieked.
âYou are a vampire, Alyssa,â he said slowly. âAn immortal.â
âNo! Thatâs not possible.â I shook my head in disbelief. âVampires arenât real. Theyâre fiction; nothing but stories and myths.â
One of his dark eyebrows rose slightly. He cocked his head to the side. He smirked as his eyes trailed down from my face. âDid you not notice the mark on your neck? Do you not remember drinking my blood?â His fangs showed as he spoke: pure white, sharp little daggers, just a slight bit longer than the rest of his teeth. His voice carried that same arrogance I remembered from when he talked with my attackers.
My mouth hung open. No, this isnât possible.
Things were still fuzzy in my head, but I did remember the blood, the liquid fire, I had been forced to drink. Iâd hoped it had just been some drug-induced dream.
Oh, my God, it was true. I drank his blood. âIâmâŚa ⌠vampire?â
âYes.â He smiled. âOur kind are very real. And now, Alyssa, you are one of us.â
I slumped backwards into the cushions of the couch. His words hit me like a punch to the gut. I stared wide-eyed at the distant wall. This was like some terrible nightmare. I didnât want to believe what he was telling me, but I knew he was right. There was no other way to explain what had happened to me. No amount of hallucinogenic drugs could have explained how I had survived the attack, why I had these markings, or the sharpness of my own new set of fangs.
âDoes that mean Iâm⌠undead?â
âYou are immortal,â Lysander said with a casual wave of his hand. âUndead is a silly term mortals use to explain the supernatural things they cannot possibly understand. You are no more dead than you were when you woke up this morning. You are just, for lack of a better word, changed.â
Lysander gave me another toothy grin. His fangs were frightening to look at. The memory of him biting me played over and over in my mind like a video stuck on repeat.
âBut you drank my blood.â My hand shot back up to cover the wound on my neck.
âOnly enough to allow the transformation.â
He reached out, grabbed my hand, and pulled it from my neck.
âDonât touch me.â I flinched, annoyed and afraid at his sudden gesture. I tried to pull my hand out of his grip, but he was so much stronger than I was. He pushed my hand to my chest, forcing me to feel the erratic thumping of my heart.
âYou see,â he said calmly. âYour heart still beats.â
I let out a breath I didnât realize I had been holding. âButâŚhow?â I relaxed my hand relaxed under his grip.
âUnlike some of your other organs, your heart is still necessary to keep blood flowing through your body.â Lysander let go of me. âFor now, while your body is in transition, it will beat in an accelerated rhythm, but it will eventually slow itself to a more normal pace.â
I was speechless. My mind raced, recalling books and movies, everything I knew about vampire mythology. Bats, stakes, and garlic immediately popped into my mind.
âI must mention that your generationâs ideas of vampires are a bit off.â Lysander spoke with a hint of amusement in his voice. âMany of the popular books and movies about our kind are no more real than childrenâs fairytales.â
Is he reading my mind? I wondered how he seemed to say just the right thing as I was thinking it. âSo, none of the stories are true?â
âMost of the new stories you are probably familiar with are filled with complete nonsense.â
âWhat about the old ones, like Dracula?â
Lysander sighed. His shoulders slumped. âDracula is not what I would consider an old story, but yes, a few are based on some truth, however little it may be. There is much that is added to make us seem easier to deal with.â His lip curled into a crooked grin. âMortals like to think they can hurt us. It helps them sleep at night.â
âSo, youâre not afraid of crosses, then?â
Lysander shook his head. âCrosses and other holy relics are nothing more than symbols and decorations. I hardly see why an ornamental cross would stop me from doing anything. Furthermore, I think itâs time for the Christians to come up with a better symbol. One that is a little less⌠gloomy.â
I chuckled. âOkay, what about garlic?â
He shrugged his shoulders. âWhat about it?â
âIsnât garlic bad for vampires?â
âNo.â He shook his head. âWhy would it be? We donât eat, so how would it harm us?â
I nodded. âOkay⌠umm⌠stakes?â
His head tilted to the side as the corner of his lip rose up into a teasing grin. âYou can try to stab me with a piece of wood, but I doubt it will do much more than aggravate me. We heal quite fast. Perhaps a blade would work better.â
I shuddered, seeing his teeth again as he spoke. Is that how I look now?
âSo, knives and swords are bad?â
âYes. It is much harder to regenerate a severed limb. And if we are separated from our heads, it would be safe to say we would cease to exist.â
I smiled, noting the sarcasm in Lysanderâs voice. I could tell heâd had this conversation before. He seemed to be enjoying my round of silly questions.
âHoly water?â I blurted out.
Lysander let out a hearty laugh. âNo, you wonât melt into a pile of goo. You can throw most of that nonsense out of the window, Alyssa.â
I giggled, realizing how silly it sounded: melting into a pile of goo after being splashed with water. Maybe this wonât be so bad.
âYou see, we immortals are not as ridiculous as Hollywood likes to portray us. Though one thing is true… we do survive off the blood of the living.â
Blossom
With Don’t Kill Dinner less than a month away I figured I could finally spill the beans… My name is Jennifer Martinez and I am addicted to writing. In my true obsessiveness I have started a new book, Blossom. Blossom is the story of Maia, a  16 year old girl who has always been the center of attention despite always wanting to hide in the shadows. Right before her Christmas holiday something big happens and everything starts to make sense. She’s not your normal 16 year old student. She is the Princess of Ranym; one of the largest kingdoms in the Land of Fae. She now has to figure out how to run a country and finish high school, if that is even possible. I hope you like it đ
**This book will be YA.**

Excerpt:
He grabbed her outstretched hand and stood. She twined her fingers into his hair and pulled his head down. Her boldness sparked a roaring inside him. Passionate urgency spread through his limbs. She licked his lips and rubbed her tongue over his. Blood pounded in his ears as arousal swelled inside him.
âArgh!â She growled at his lip and tugged at his shirt, wanting it off.
He grinned, pulled the material over his head, and left his chest and upper body devoid of clothing.
âYesss,â she moaned. Tracing every line of his chest with her fingertips, she slowly moved her nimble hands down his torso.
âOh, baby.â He groaned with each kiss of her lips on his chest.
She licked his nipples, first one and then the other, sucked the tiny bud into her mouth and twirled her tongue on the flat disc.
âLili,â he groaned.
Moving his hands to the tableâs edge, she silently commanded him to hang on. He watched her lick, kiss, and nip his pecs, abs, and down to his belly button. There, she dipped her tongue into the hole and bit down while gazing up at him. Aroused amber eyes glittered at him. She was so beautiful. His cock jerked as soon as her hands gripped his base and squeezed. He hissed out a breath.
He held on to the tableâs edge so hard he heard cracking of wood. She did a slow pump up his entire length. Then he watched her use the moisture dripping from his slit as lubrication. With one long lick, she worked her way from his balls, up the throbbing underside vein, and to the crown of his cock. Once there she licked his mushroomed head in a circle and followed that by sucking his dick into her mouth.
Suck after suck, she raised the bar on his pleasure. She jerked and licked with enthusiasm, her lips tight and wet around his cock. He loved listening to her soft little moans when he thrust into her mouth. Sparks gathered at his spine.
He drew her off his cock and kissed her swollen lips. Shifting positions, he pulled the pajama top and bottom off her body in quick moves. She leaned back on the edge of the heavy wood table. Warm, curvy flesh filled his hands when he grabbed her by the waist, lifted her to the smooth wood table, and sat her on the edge.
âLean back, love.â
She glanced over her shoulder, but no dishes sat on that side of the long table. He watched her lean until she was held up by her elbows. She peered at him with passion-dazed eyes.
He did a visual tour down her curvy body to her glistening sex. She spread her legs wide, bending them at the knees and giving him full view of her pink pussy. With a deep inhale, he drew in her scent and growled. Cinnamon and her musky aroused honey filled his lungs. His cock jerked, needing inside her. Moisture dripped from her slit, crawling down to her ass. He glanced up and caught her nibbling her lip. Their eyes locked.
âLick me, Cade. Make me come,â she pleaded.
Cade pulled a chair and sat down to eatâŚher. Her pussy sat before him, spread wide open and glistening with honey. He curled his arms around her thighs, moved her legs over his shoulders, and took a swipe up her swollen pussy lips.
She inhaled a sharp breath and moaned. âMore.â
He licked up her trimmed curls and sucked on her juices. She whimpered, wiggling her hips in his grip. Unhurried, he licked around the tight pleasure bundle he knew would be her undoing. He swiped his tongue up her asshole and to her sex. Drinking in the honey dripping on his tongue, he plunged his tongue into her cunt. He growled, and she jerked.
âYesss.â She panted and moaned all the while lying flat on the table.
His cock was rock hard from tasting, smelling, and listening to her. With one hand he grasped his cock. She grabbed hold of his hair and rode his face. Over and over he fucked her with his tongue and jerked himself at the same time. Precum dripped in heavy amounts from his cock. Fuck, she was so hot. Moans, pants, and ragged breathing were all he heard from her.
Her legs shook, breathing hitched, and whimpering increased. âGod, Cade. Iâm so closeâŚâ
Letting go of his shaft, he held her open and sucked down on her clit. She tensed, shuddered, and screamed. Her body bucked and dripped wet heat over his lips.
âOh my, Cade.â She shook every few seconds. Pleasure filled him at the reverent way she said his name. He chuckled and stood. She peered up at him with a look so hot it almost made him come.
He lifted her off the table and helped her to her feet.
She turned on the table and splayed her upper body over the same spot sheâd been lying on. Then she wiggled her ass at him. âFuck me, baby.â
